LANKA
AIESEC, the world's largest student organization, is the international
platform for young people to discover and develop their potential so as to have a positive impact
on society. In addition to providing over
7,700 leadership positions and delivering over
470 conferences to our membership of over
35,000 students, AIESEC also runs an exchange program that enables over
5,500 students and recent graduates the opportunity to live and work in another
country.
AIESEC in Sri Lanka was started in 1995. Today it provides development experiences to young people from 4 universities – University of Moratuwa, University of Kelaniya, Uniersity of Sri Jayawardenapura and University of Colombo. Every year more than 50 foreign young people come on internships to companies in Sri Lanka and graduates from Sri Lanka go on exchanges to work in companies abroad.
It is also the defining element of the AIESEC experience providing students and recent graduates the opportunity to live and work in a foreign country. It is the most intense learning experience that we offer and it links together our global network. The whole AIESEC network focuses on increasing the number of high quality traineeship experiences. AIESEC has its network of undergraduates and recent graduates from over 107 countries and territories all around the world. AIESEC in Sri Lanka partnering with Standard Chartered Bank aims to educate the youth in the country to be self aware of the HIV/AIDS epidemic and thus to prevent the spreading of the disease. AIESEC with the support of Standard Chartered Bank has conducted several workshops, events under the Life in Red Initiative and impacted more than 1500 University students and youth from Higher Educational institutes. The project addresses the issue of climate change and lack of sustainability in human activities on the environment. "AIESEC Global Internship program" enables organizations to
source high potential students and recent graduates from over 1100 universities in
over 100 countries and territories. With over 3,500 partners each year, sourcing AIESEC interns is
a proven solution for both short-term and long-term human resource need.
With the vision
“Connecting the next generation of Sri Lanka to the International…”, the project “Guru Gedara” is
designed to deliver an English learning platform for the students of the Local schools in Sri
Lanka. The age range of the students focused by this project is decided by the project statistics
that we have achieved so far which results in a potential age range of age 10-14.
LIFE
IN RED is AIESEC in Sri Lanka’s HIV/AIDS initiative, focusing on raising awareness and sensitizing
University students on HIV/AIDS and related issues prevalent globally and in Sri Lanka.
Climate
change is becoming a major issue in the world today. Sri Lanka is a vulnerable island of its
effects on the globe because the country is an island, hence is in a verge of getting drowned in
the deep blue sea. It’s a proven fact that most of the causes of climate change are due to human
activities that are harmful to the environment. This is because of the lack of the awareness among
the people. This project will be a starting point of making a difference in a rather practical way.
We plan to get closer to the society to make the society aware about the cause of Climate change
and also its effects over the human kind.
